Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
To perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work and operate a variety of equipment in the litter abatement of roadway rights-of-way for the City of Killeen.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties
Perform litter abatement in roadway rights-of-way and various city owned properties; removes debris, litter from areas required to be maintained, and properly disposes this material.
Operates and performs operator maintenance on equipment and tools, such as mowers, edgers, weed eaters, blowers, and power hand tools.
Adheres to safety precautions and regulations related to the operation of equipment; complies with all City and departmental safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Uses and wears personal protective equipment and clothing and complies with safe working controls; reports all accidents and/or injuries to the supervisor immediately and completes reports as required.
Effectively works together to meet the needs of the community and City through superior customer service, commitment, and integrity.
Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license, if required, and complies with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred.
2. Six (6) months of experience, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
2. Ability to sustain effective working relationships with other employees and supervisors.
3. Ability to complete assigned tasks.
4. Ability to observe proper safety precautions.
5. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
6. Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must have a valid Texas driver's license by date of hire.
2. Must have or acquire within two (2) months of date of hire all basic level National Institute Management System (NIMS) certifications as required by the City.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Various equipment used will include, but not necessarily limited to, Motor vehicle, tractors with mowing attachments, mowers, weed trimmers, edger's, herbicide equipment, phone, calculator, radio, hydraulic powered equipment, safety equipment, and maps, as required.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
