SUMMARY
The Grounds Pesticide Applicator is responsible for safely executing the application of pesticides and herbicides across all school district properties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Perform pesticide and herbicide applications based on site needs, pest trends, and seasonal conditions.
Use sound reasoning and judgment to determine the safest and most effective pest control methods. Accurately calculate mix ratios, treatment areas, and application rates.
Maintain detailed and compliant records of pesticide use, chemical inventory, and application schedules.
Read and interpret pesticide labels, SDSs, and regulatory guidance documents.
Provide clear, written and verbal communication to supervisors, staff, and contractors regarding pest control.
Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
Performs preventative maintenance and services and makes minor repairs on equipment.
Operates motor vehicles and engine powered equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Athletics Grounds Foreman or Grounds Care Specialist.
Occasionally will be required to support general grounds care when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in horticulture, pest management, or environmental safety (preferred.).
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Reading and interpreting pesticide labels, safety documents, and manuals. Writing detailed logs, reports, and safety documentation. Communicating effectively with diverse staff and school administrators.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Unit conversions (e.g., gallons, ounces, square feet, acres) Calculating dilution rates and coverage areas.
REASONING ABILITY
Identifying pest-related problems and selecting appropriate solutions. Making decisions based on safety, environmental impact, and regulatory guidelines. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Familiarity with EPA and Texas Department of Agricultural Standards.
Organizational and time management skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Valid Texas pesticide applicator license in applicable categories. (preferred).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for extended periods of time
Must be able to regularly lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate and transport pesticide application equipment and tools. Requires visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to measure and mix chemicals accurately. Ability to work in outdoor environments for long durations in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and sun. May include wearing protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, goggles, and coveralls.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to pesticides, fertilizers, dust, allergens, and loud equipment noise. May involve working near students, staff, and members of the public; discretion and safety awareness are essential. Compliance with all school district, local, and federal safety standards is mandatory.
