Overview

The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning.

Speechifys text-to-speech products help users turn what theyre reading PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites into audio so they can read faster, read more, and remember more. Our products include the iOS app, Android app, Mac app, Chrome Extension, and Web App. Speechify has been recognized with awards for Chrome Extension of the Year and for inclusivity in design in 2025.

Today, Speechify operates as a 100% distributed team with nearly 200 people globally. We collaborate across frontend and backend engineering, AI research, and other roles, with team members from leading tech companies and academia.

What Youll Do

• Own major features and work closely with design to deliver high-quality features inside the Android app.
• Shape the future of the Android team and contribute to product decisions that improve user experiences.
• Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Participate in cross-team discussions (Product, Design, Engineering) and review pull requests.
• Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges; take ownership of feature releases and provide nightly builds for QA.

An Ideal Candidate Should Have

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Familiarity with Android components and experience building or contributing to at least one Android app.
• Product design intuition and user empathy; drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
• Understanding of testing strategies and emphasis on quality.
• Self-driven to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec.
• Strong Kotlin experience, including Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android Animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• User-oriented problem solving and openness to continuous feedback from leadership.

Bonus

• Experience building, maintaining, or contributing to open source projects in Android.
• Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS.

Salary (United States Based): 140,000-200,000 USD/Year + Bonus + Stock depending on experience
