JOB SUMMARY

Receives incoming calls for police and non-emergency assistance, entering relevant information into the CAD system. Provides general support for dispatch operations, including record-keeping, typing, and filing. Monitors teletype communications. Must successfully complete the licensing academy, pass the TCOLE exam, and complete all required training and associated tests for licensing.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Community Services Sergeant and general supervision of the Community Services Lieutenant.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Receives non-emergency calls from the public requesting police or other non-emergency services; determines nature and location of incident; enters all necessary information into the computer system. Maintains contact with the public and responders. Verifies locations and updates events.
Answers maintenance service emergencies on weekends and holidays.
Answers incoming phone calls, screens calls, and routes to an appropriate person or office.
Answers all incoming phone calls for the Fire Department upon request from that Department.
Retrieves information from teletype networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles, and other information.
Performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work.
Maintains a variety of logs relating to public safety activities.
Types information received for calls for service and related incidents into the CAD system.
Maintains records and develops reports.
Tests and inspects equipment as required.
Monitors all systems and reports malfunctions of equipment.
Performs duties in support of other desks within the Department.
Performs search and pat downs of prisoners, when required, of same sex arrestees.
Handles all walk-in complaints and enters the information into the CAD system.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Typing test through the Workforce Solutions Office or online (only if Workforce Solutions is not available). Applicants who have taken a typing test within one (1) year of application date may attach the results to their online application.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to attain this knowledge and abilities would be through some experience in public relations.
A high school graduate or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Be completely free of alcohol or drug habits.
