Overview

Job Summary: The Bookkeeper fulfills the mission of the church by assisting the Pastor regarding the fiscal matters of the church, maintaining the bookkeeping for the church, the columbarium and other activities, maintaining DIAL accounts, assisting in the preparation of the budget, compiling reports for the pastor and various committees, and advising the pastor concerning other financial matters. Provides support for the Finance Committee. This position reports to and is evaluated by the Pastor.

Essential Job Duties

  • As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of All Angels and Saints Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for the church, the columbarium, youth ministries, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Maintains records and communication to support the Treasurer of the Board, the Development Office, business and finance councils, and outside CPA.
  • Serves as contact for employees regarding enrollment, information, deductions, direct deposit program, insurance and retirement processes and executes accounts payable and receivable.
  • Prepares and submits quarterly sales tax report.
  • Reconciles all accounts and performs end-of-year close-outs.
  • Performs budget analysis and keeps the pastor informed of budget trends, reviewing before each Board meeting.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual payroll reports, and payroll and payroll tax deposits.
  • Supports the billing of tuition and the tuition assistance.
  • Communicates effectively within church ministries.
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese/local administration.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the parishioners and staff.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support planning.
  • Oversees office equipment placed throughout the church grounds and buildings.
  • Prepares and develops the annual budget.
  • Implements management of funds and investments per the direction of the Pastor.
  • Maintains appropriate filing system (paper and digital) including archiving requirements for payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly finance.
  • Prepares annual government survey for Diocese of Austin.
  • Attends and assists with events when cash is involved and ensures appropriate cash handling procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Able to work well with staff and others in the parish community.
  • Can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Organizing and relating information in an understandable format.
  • Accounting

  • Skill in critical thinking and planning

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Trainings: Bachelor degree preferred, Associate degree required

  • Experience: Bookkeeping experience preferred

Language
  • English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
  • Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing). Preferred but not required.

Catholic Requirement
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid Texas drivers license.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions
  • All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
  • The Parish is an at-will employer.
  • All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
  • Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
  • May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations.
  • Travel within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
