US Department of Defense - - Responsibilities: Assist in compiling and maintaining a comprehensive database of all patients diagnosed and/or treated for cancer to ensure accuracy and completeness of appropriate staging, coding and inclusion of all pertinent patient data; Review standard and electronic patient medical records to identify cases of malignant disease, abstract and code information, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment; Contact patients, physicians, and other healthcare facilities to update registry follow-up information, such as quality of life and length of survival of cancer patients; Identify and code topography, morphology, and other relevant information for each reportable incidence of cancer; Assist in providing cancer data to physicians, clinicians, epidemiologists and other researchers for cancer-related studies and research projects; and provide guidance to the command in the use of tumor registry data
