Production Planner - Alloy / Metals Manufacturing Company Overview A leading advanced manufacturing organization is building a world-class facility focused on producing high-performance superalloys for aerospace, space, and defense applications. Position Summary The Production Planner is responsible for developing and executing production schedules within a highly technical metals manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in aligning customer demand with furnace capacity, optimizing alloy sequencing, and maximizing material utilization. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capability, experience in complex manufacturing environments, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally across operations, sales, and technical teams. This individual will directly impact on-time delivery, cost performance, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling: o Develop and maintain detailed production schedules for melting and downstream processing operations. o Align production plans with demand forecasts, capacity constraints, and operational priorities. o Balance short-term execution with long-term planning to drive throughput and delivery performance. Alloy Sequencing & Process Optimization: o Design production sequences to minimize contamination risk and reduce changeover time. o Sequence production based on material compatibility, chemistry, and equipment constraints. o Continuously improve sequencing strategies to increase efficiency and reduce scrap. Material Utilization & Inventory Management: o Optimize the use of raw materials, scrap, and internal reuse streams to maximize yield. o Monitor inventory levels of critical materials and coordinate with supply chain teams. o Support cost control initiatives through effective material planning. Charge Planning & Technical Coordination: o Perform and validate charge calculations aligned with material specifications. o Partner with technical and quality teams to ensure compliance and traceability. o Adjust planning inputs based on yield performance and process feedback. Sales & Customer Alignment: o Translate customer demand, forecasts, and priorities into actionable production plans. o Provide commit dates based on capacity, constraints, and material availability. o Support schedule adjustments for high-priority or urgent customer requirements. Cross-Functional Communication: o Present production plans, risks, and performance metrics to leadership and stakeholders. o Participate in S&OP and production planning meetings. o Clearly communicate constraints, risks, and mitigation strategies. Continuous Improvement & Systems: o Identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy, cycle time, and material efficiency. o Support ERP/MRP system enhancements and planning tools. o Utilize data analytics to improve forecasting and decision-making.
